Nuon technology was developed by VM Labs and released in 2000. The Nuon platform was designed to be integrated in standard DVD players, and could enhance playback for DVDs designed for Nuon, as well as play Nuon games. A few manufacturers released Nuon-compatible players, including Samsung and Toshiba.
Without little in the way of marketing or third party support, the Nuon quickly died with only 8 games and 4 compatible DVDs under its belt, and VM Labs filed for bankruptcy in 2001.
Nuon had a few decent games, including Tempest 3000 and Ballistic, but this is not one the general gaming populace should track down. It’s not common at all, and typically gets a wee bit pricey. For collectors though, this is definitely an interesting and unique piece, and given it does have some playable titles, it may even see some use.
